One phone hosts and conducts the show from the music playing in the room. Every other phone joins by scanning a QR code and turns into a fixture — a strobe, a colour wash, or both — all firing on the same beat.
How it works

One phone hosts
The host phone listens to the music in the room and finds the beat, or you drive the show by hand from a pad grid. It conducts; it does not have to be plugged into anything.
Guests scan a QR code
Everyone else points a camera at the host's screen and lands straight in the show — in the app if they have it, in the browser if they don't. It takes seconds per person.
The room lights up
Assign each phone a role — camera-flash strobe, full-screen colour wash, or both — lay them around the room, and run the show. Chases, pulses, and sweeps move across real space.
Built to actually stay in sync
The hard part of a phone light show is not the effects — it's making twelve phones on flaky party Wi-Fi agree on when "now" is. LumaBeat never sends a "flash now" message.
Scheduled cues, not live frames
Phones continuously estimate their clock offset against the relay, and the host sends every cue ahead of time. Fixtures fire from their own local timers, so network jitter never shows up as ragged light.
Deterministic effects
Every effect is a pure function of the shared timeline and a seed sent with the cue. Two phones given the same cue compute the same frame — that is what keeps the room looking like one rig instead of many.
Strobe, wash, or both
The camera torch gives you a hard white strobe; the screen gives you saturated colour and gradients. Assign roles per phone and place them for the effect you want.
Rides the music
Beat detection from the host's microphone drives tempo and intensity, so the show follows whatever is actually playing — no playlist to import, no track to line up.
Kind to the phones
A thermal governor eases off the torch as devices warm up and cuts it entirely if they get too hot, and a battery floor drops fixtures out of the show before anyone's phone dies.
Nothing to sign up for
Rooms are capability tokens, not accounts. Guests never create a profile, and there is nothing to delete afterwards.
Safety
LumaBeat produces bright, rapidly flashing light. Strobe effects sit in the frequency band associated with photosensitive epilepsy, and we treat that as a first-class part of the product rather than a disclaimer.
- A seizure warning before any strobe. Every person joining a room sees and acknowledges the warning before a single flash fires.
- Per-phone strobe opt-out. Anyone can switch their own device out of strobe effects and stay in the show as a colour wash. Every effect honours it.
- A host panic button. One tap blacks out every phone in the room immediately.
- Thermal and battery limits. Torch duty cycle backs off as a phone heats up and stops entirely if it gets hot; fixtures leave the show below a battery floor.
